Jamshedpur, July 5: The statements of nine accused in the case of theft of gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs. 40 lakh from a house in Sakchi, Jamshedpur, were recorded on Wednesday. Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Vishal Gaurav presided over the hearing, where all the accused declared their innocence.
The theft occurred at the residence of Ajay Kumar Modi in Sakchi Rajendra Nagar between September 29 and October 9, 2022. The accused include Parvez Alam Ansari (Old Purulia Road Mango), Mohammad Afroz (Azadnagar Road Number Seven), Sunny Prasad Rani (Bagbeda), Shailesh Modi (Sheetla Mandir Sakchi), Rahmatullah Ansari (Jugsalai), Niranjan Gaur (Bagbeda Lal Building), Sheikh Israel (Old Purulia Road Mango), Mohammad Shahid Ali (Jugsalai), and Sheikh Ashfaq (Jugsalai).
Following the incident, an FIR was lodged against unknown persons at the Sakchi police station based on the statement by Ajay Kumar Modi. According to the FIR, while the family was away, four individuals broke into the house and stole the jewellery, which included a gold chain, six bracelets, three diamonds, three pairs of diamond bangles, three gold rings, four diamond rings, eleven diamond necklaces, six diamond mangalsutras, four earrings, one hundred gold coins, and other valuable items.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for July 15, where witnesses for the defence will be presented. So far, eleven people have testified in the case.
