Jamshedpur, Feb 16: A state-level team, formed under the Chief Minister Hospital Mentoring Scheme, conducted an extensive inspection of MGM Medical College and Hospital. The six-member team, which included medical professionals from Ranchi RIMS and MGM Medical College, assessed various departments of the hospital, including the OPD, emergency, dental, CT scan, Ayushman, ortho, surgery, gynaecology, paediatrics, blood bank and pathology.

The inspection revealed significant issues in hospital operations, with overcrowding being a major concern. The team observed that while the hospital has equipment, much of it is improperly installed and not being used effectively. There is also a severe shortage of space, particularly in the medical and gynaecology departments, where conditions are deemed the worst. The team stressed the need for expanded facilities to better accommodate the growing patient population.

Additionally, the team found that many operations are still being conducted using outdated equipment in some of the operation theatres, highlighting a need for modernization. They emphasized the importance of acquiring new technology to improve treatment quality and provide better learning opportunities for future doctors. Despite these shortcomings, the team acknowledged that improvements had been made and that challenges are inherent in every system.

After inspecting the MGM campus, the team also visited the newly built hospital at Dimna Chowk, expressing satisfaction with the infrastructure but urging improvements in operational management. They pointed out that although the new hospital is a commendable facility, a solid operational plan is required for its success. Notably, they questioned the delay in starting OPDs for specialized services such as neuro, kidney, cancer and heart care. Principal Dr. Diwakar Hansda explained that interviews for specialist doctors were scheduled and would commence once permission was granted.

In another development, the team addressed an ongoing issue regarding the lack of water at the new hospital located on Dimna Road in Mango. Due to insufficient water supply, the hospital has been unable to move in-patient services from the old hospital in Sakchi to the new facility. A meeting was held with the Municipal Corporation’s representative to discuss the issue, with hospital department heads expressing their concerns about the operational difficulties caused by the water shortage.

The Health Department has formed dedicated teams to visit various hospitals, including Sadar Hospital, Community Health Centers (CHC) and Primary Health Centers (PHC), to assess the conditions and report on necessary improvements. The goal is to enhance healthcare services across the region and ensure better infrastructure and facilities for patients.
