Jamshedpur : In view of New Year, special squads of cops will carry out patrolling the city roads after the dusk and will conduct surprise inspection of hotels and clubs where the gathering of people is increasing as the New Year is inching closer.
Revealing about the steps, superintendent of police (city) Prabhat Kumar said special squads of cops will carry out patrolling the city roads after the dusk and will conduct surprise inspection of hotels and clubs.
” We want to keep an eye on rowdy elements. Such people will be prosecuted after getting subject to alcohol test,” said Kumar. The city SP said focus will be made on the safety of women and girls so as to ensure that the latter may find no hurdles from anyone in coming out of their houses and returning home safely.
The East Singhbhum district police have decided to intensify drive against tipplers by pressing special squads for patrolling streets and public places as well as hotels from tonight.
The police decided to intensify the drive against tipplers as a number of hooliganism and clashes by anti-social elements has been reported from the steel city and the adjoining Adityapur in Seraikela-Kharsawan district during the past two days.
“As per the plans the squads will be on the streets for checking of drunk-drive may arrest anyone if find involved in rash-driving or drunk driving. During the drive which will last till late in the night we will ensure that the anti-social elements may not indulge themselves in clash on the streets and also at the public places like hotels, and also in the clubs,” said the senior police officer.
Sources in the police said there will be about 100 additional policemen in four-wheelers and also on bikes for patrolling the city and also for their deployment in strategic points across the city.
Patrolling teams will also include women constables. The idea is to prevent eve-teasing cases and ensure that nobody is able to forcibly enter picnic spots and party venues. Ladies constables will also be deployed in some of the sensitive areas marked by the police to tackle with the eve teasers.
They have been instructed to take action immediately if any instance of eve teasing found around them. “We are dedicated to provide peaceful atmosphere to the people for New Year\ celebrations and we are doing our best for that,” the he said.
“During this season eve-teasing cases register an increase at the picnic spots so the district women cell of the police has planned to work in coordination with the respective local police stations to prevent incidents of eve-teasing in the picnic spots,” said an official of the district women’s cell.
