Jamshedpur: Six cyber criminals apprehended for money-doubling scam

Jamshedpur, Jan 18: In a significant breakthrough, the East Singhbhum District Police, assisted by the Prakharpan app, have successfully arrested six cyber criminals involved in a fraudulent money-doubling scheme. Acting on a complaint received through the app, the Jamshedpur Rural Police took swift action, leading to the apprehension of Naveen Chandra Mahato, Ramchandra Mahato, Rahul Mahato, Ajay Dalai, Sujay Dalai, and Jai Sengupta, all residents of Purnapani, Chakulia.

The police seized six mobile phones from the accused, which were instrumental in carrying out their cyber fraud activities. Rural SP Rishabh Garg provided details of the case on Thursday, revealing that the initial arrests were made based on a complaint against mobile numbers 9155839634 and 9934788380 received through the Prakharpan app. Subsequent interrogations uncovered the involvement of other cyber criminals, leading to their subsequent arrests.

The modus operandi of the accused involved deceiving individuals by promising to double their money. Victims were sent links and urged to invest in a fabricated company. Initially, small amounts were doubled to build trust. Once the victims were ensnared, they were coerced into making larger investments. When substantial sums were at stake, the cyber criminals absconded with the funds. The arrests were made promptly following the received complaint through the Prakharpan app.

Rishabh Garg emphasized the effectiveness of the Prakharpan app in aiding law enforcement agencies across the country in apprehending cyber criminals. Similar successes have been observed in other districts of the state, further reinforcing the role of technology in combating cyber fraud and ensuring the safety of citizens.
