Jamshedpur, July 11: City’s 28-year-old Taranjit Singh alias Sammy was shot dead by criminals at Manila, the capital of Philippines, at around 12:00 noon on Sunday. His maternal uncle Sardar Kuldeep Singh who is a resident of Sitaramdera took him to Manila Hospital, where he died.

He was the son of Sardar Dayal Singh, a resident of Mango Gurdwara Basti in Jamshedpur. Ironically, there is no direct air service with India during the ongoing pandemic and his body cannot be brought to the state. But if the Union Ministry of External Affairs and Foreign Minister of the Government of India and the Ambassador of the Philippines take initiatives, the elderly parents can have a last view of their son.

Taranjit Singh is the brother-in-law of Gurdeep Singh Pappu, the central president of Jharkhand Sikh Vikas Manch and former district president of Janata Dal-U.

The victim had opened his restaurant in Manila. “ As per our information, two youths came posing as customers and they ventured to look for ice cream and fished out a pistol. Sensing the situation, Taranprit ran from there, but the killers chased him and shot two bullets in the head and two bullets in the chest.

“ I appeal to the Prime Minister and the Minister of External Affairs, that this victim’s family should get justice according to the law there. I also appeal to the Chief Minister to contact the Government of India from his level and cooperate with the victim’s family in bringing the dead body to Jamshedpur,” said Singh.
