Jamshedpur Shocked: Woman gang-raped near Dimna Lake, two arrested

Jamshedpur: A woman was gang-raped in the MGM police station area in Mango. The city police arrested two suspects within six hours of the complaint being filed.

The accused have been identified as Om Prakash and Jitendra Sharma. Police officials said both are being interrogated, while further investigation into the case is underway.

According to police sources, the incident came to light after villagers found the victim lying injured and distressed by the roadside in the MGM police station area. Local residents alerted the police, following which officers rushed to the spot and shifted the woman to MGM Hospital for treatment.

After her condition stabilised, the victim recorded her statement before the police, detailing the alleged sequence of events.

According to her statement, the accused allegedly took her towards Mirjadih near Dimna Lake on the pretext of going for a drive. She alleged that they forcibly made her consume alcohol before taking her to Rupaidanga in the MGM police station area, where she was again allegedly forced to consume alcohol.

The woman further alleged that when she resisted, the accused assaulted her and subsequently sexually assaulted her. They then abandoned her by the roadside and fled the scene.

Senior police officials constituted a special investigation team to probe the incident. Acting on specific inputs, the team conducted raids at the suspected hideouts of the accused and succeeded in apprehending both men within six hours of the incident being reported.

Police have completed the victim’s medical examination and initiated the necessary legal formalities. Investigators are collecting medical and forensic evidence, recording witness statements, and examining all aspects of the case.

Senior police officials stated that the investigation is being conducted on a priority and that all evidence will be placed before the court to ensure a fair and speedy trial.
