Three succumb to virus, active cases at 6560
Jamshedpur, Jan 12: Breaking all records, Jamshedpur reported 1280 fresh Covid cases and 3 deaths on Wednesday. This is Jamshedpur’s highest daily spike since the pandemic began in March 2020. Earlier on Tuesday, January 11, Jamshedpur saw a record single-day rise of 1160 coronavirus cases and 4 fatalities. Telco area of the Steel City which has emerged as the hotspot, on Wednesday reported 226 fresh infections.
Fresh infections on Wednesday pushed the total tally to 60168, while the death toll reached 1082 following 3 fresh fatalities, according to East Singhbhum health bulletin.
Wednesday’s report marks a single-day record for the number of new cases in Jamshedpur.
Jamshedpur’s positivity rate – the number of people testing positive for every 100 tests – has jumped to 11.11 per cent with the latest addition in cases. 11522 samples were tested on Wednesday.
Sakchi, Sonari, Kadma and Mango areas of the city have also emerged hotspots with the maximum caseloads. On Wednesday, Sakchi reported 102 cases, Sonari 87, Kadma 116 and Mango recorded 162 cases.
Total active cases in Jamshedpur are 6560.
The city has been producing a tidal wave of cases over the past days and the surge is believed to be driven by the Omicron variant. The variant is highly transmissible, according to experts.
31 cases have been reported from Parsudih, 19 from Burmamines, 41 from Birsanagar, 56 from Baridih, 2 from Dhalbhumgarh, 78 from Golmuri, 4 from Dumaria, 22 from Bagbera, 18 from Musabani, 49 from Ghatsila, 10 from Patamda, 5 from Potka, 57 from Bistupur, 13 from Sitaramdera, 2 from Bahragora, 27 from Jugsalai, 18 from Sidhgora, 12 from Chakulia, 13 from Sundernagar and 110 from different areas of city.
The positivity rate rose to 2.86 per cent in Jamshedpur.
The cumulative coronavirus case count stands at 60168 and the death count is now 1082, according to the latest health bulletin.
The new cases came out of the 11522 tests conducted on Wednesday.
There are 6560 active COVID-19 cases in Jamshedpur.
As many 52526 people have recovered from COVID-19 so far with 297 recoveries recorded in the last 24-hours. 11522 COVID-19 tests, including 3938 RT-PCR, 7171 RAT and 413 TrueNat were conducted in the last 24 hours in the city.
The district administration said it would go for aggressive containment and stricter enforcement of health protocols such as wearing masks and keeping social distance.
East Singhbhum district administration has conducted 789938 test per million in the district. The recovery rate in Jamshedpur is 89.20% while the mortality rate is 1.80 %.
So far in Jamshedpur 2104406 samples have been collected out of which 2102815 have been tested and 2042647 have turned out to be negative.
