Jamshedpur Shardamoni School student on ventilator, security beefed up at TMH

Jamshedpur, Oct 20: The class 9 student of Shardamoni Girls High School who attempted suicide through self-immolation after alleged humiliation by a teacher was put on ventilator at Tata Main Hospital Wednesday late evening. Her pulse rate reportedly went down, leading the doctor to take the step. Her condition is reportedly serious, sources said.

SDO Dhalbhum Sandeep Kumar Meena visited the hospital to see the minor. He also ordered beefing up of security at the hospital in view of her deteriorating condition.

Hundreds of residents of Chhayanagar including members of Mukhi Samaj had staged demonstration before the school on 15^th October to demand action against the accused teacher, Chanda Das who had caught the victim cheating during her Science exam. Das allegedly made the girl take off her dress in front of the class. Feeling humiliated and depressed, the girl poured kerosene on herself and set herself on fire around 5 pm at her house soon after returning from school. Many city outfits staged protests and demanded action against the school teacher. Das and the school Principal Geeta Rani were suspended by the school after the incident. Das was sent to jail and a team of district administration is conducting a probe into the incident.
