Jamshedpur, March 21: Mrityunjay Poddar, 27, a resident of Seraikela near Jamshedpur, is a worried man. He has got domestic electricity bill of Rs 2,19,000 for an assessment period of just two months. To add to his woes, the billing amount has increased to Rs 2,77,417 in the last four years.

“I had received the bill in the year 2017 just two months after getting the electricity connection. The first bill amount was Rs 558 which I paid immediately. The next bill amount of Rs 2,19,000 shocked us all. We only had two bulbs and a fan in our house. I complained to the electricity department officials several times, but did not get any help,” said Poddar.

Poddar said he had also taken up the complaint with Prime Minister’s Office and Mukhyamantri Jan Samvad. But no action has been taken by the electricity department to correct the billing anomaly. Every time, the officials assure to take action, but do nothing, he said.

After complaining at Mukhyamantri Jan Samvad, Poddar’s electricity meter was changed. But the billing amount kept piling up like before.

Poddar suffers from 75 per cent physical disability and his father Ramesh Chandra Poddar, 82, is a pensioner under government’s welfare scheme. His family had taken the power connection to support his studies. But now the family is finding it hard to tackle this whopping electricity bill as there is no help from any corner.
