Jamshedpur: All government, minority and private schools in Jamshedpur (East Singhbhum district) will remain closed for students of Classes Nursery to XII on January 5 and 6, 2026, following a cold wave alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to the weather forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold and severe cold conditions are likely to continue over the next few days, posing health risks, especially to children. Acting on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi, the administration has invoked Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita to take preventive measures.
According to the official directive, classroom teaching activities will remain suspended in all schools during the two-day period. However, schools where board examinations are scheduled during this time have been allowed to conduct exams as per their own arrangements.
The district administration clarified that teachers and non-teaching staff working in government schools will be required to report for duty on January 6, 2026. Staff members must mark their attendance through the eVV system and carry out non-teaching and administrative work at their respective institutions.
School managements have been instructed to strictly comply with the order.
Parents have welcomed the move, saying it will help protect children from harsh winter conditions prevailing in Jamshedpur and surrounding areas.
