Jamshedpur, May 4: Following an order issued by the East Singhbhum district administration on Wednesday, respective school management reversed the school timing. All private and government schools in Jamshedpur will conduct classes till 12 noon from May 5.
“In view of the change in weather, we have decided that from tomorrow onwards classes in private and government schools will be conducted from 6.30 am to 12 noon. Though the decision was taken as the city was under heatwave condition but now rain and thunderstorm activity during the past few days have changed the weather. The day’s reading is quite comfortable with maximum temperature hovering much below 40 degrees Celsius,” said a district administration official.
A communique from Loyola School said: “With effect from tomorrow 5th May 2022 School timings will be from 6.25 to 11.40 am. We shall revert to the old timetable with 8 periods”.
Notably, most schools would also declare summer vacations around the second week of May.
The extreme heatwave caused by westerly winds had prompted the district administration to ask schools last week to disperse classes by 10.30 am. All private and government schools were since then conducted classes between 6.30 am and 10.30 am. Schools welcomed the decision of the local administration as it will now help them in meeting the portion in various subjects.
“It was too hot, especially at the time when students leave for home. Therefore, many schools collectively took this decision. Before any child falls ill, we change the timings. But now the situation is better, we are back to old timing,” said an official.
“Whenever we change, it rains and it has happened every time. So, we should have watched for a day and then decided. We won’t take any decision in haste,” said a principal.
Meanwhile, city-based senior doctor, Dr. U K Srivastava said that people should take extra care during such sweltering weather conditions.“I am of the opinion that special arrangements should be made in all government hospitals and community health centres across the city to treat those suffering from sunstroke. There should be arrangement of air-conditioners or air-coolers for the treatment of such patients,” he noted.
