Jamshedpur, Dec 4: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy went on a whirlwind tour of his constituency on Sunday. He called on local residents to unite against criminal elements, especially drugs rackets, and corruption.
Roy went to Bhalubasa, Mukhi Basti, Bhalubasa, Kalindi Basti and Sitaramdera
During the visit, Roy interacted with local residents and inquired about various issues affecting them. He asked about the status of basic civic amenities in these localities.
Addressing the people, Roy said these localities were once known for the environment of fear, corruption and terror due to the presence of a particular family. He alleged that the particular family and its members wielded their influence for 20 to 25 years and the local traders, women and senior citizens were fed up with the situation.
Roy assured the residents of a fearless environment in the constituency. He said the people should fight against rackets dealing in drugs including brown sugar. District administration is also hesitant in taking on these elements, he said.
Roy said recently a mob of 150 to 200 people armed with lathis and chairs had attacked women and other innocent people gathered for a religious programme in the area. Such people should not think that the people are helpless and weak, he said.
