Jamshedpur, May 24: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy Tuesday visited Moharda drinking water project and inspected the ongoing work of installation of iron nets in the intake well. He said garbage and weeds had gathered around the intake well due to reduction of water flow in the river. He said the water had become black due to pollution.
The project officials informed Roy that just one net was installed on the intake well with the view to prevent waste materials from entering it. But this arrangement was not adequate and people often complained about the quality of water.
Roy said he had asked Tata Steel UISL management to ensure supply of clean and quality drinking water to the people. Two additional nets have been installed in the intake well in Moharda, he said.
Roy lauded the efforts of Tata Steel UISL workers and specialists for installing rust-free iron nets in the intake well by going underwater in risky situation. Now plastic and other waste materials would not flow into the intake well, he said.
The MLA said the people were now getting water supply twice a day. Five water tanks have been cleaned in the last five months and efforts are on to increase the capacity of Moharda water supply project.
