Jamshedpur, August 16: Rise in flood threats in the low-lying areas of Jamshedpur and Mano due to rise of river water level figures in the talk held under the initiative of Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy with engineers of Chandil, Icha and Galudih dam and officials of Mango Municipal Corporation and Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee at Nirmal Guest House on Monday.
The officials of the Swarnrekha project said that since 2008 the water level of Kharkai and Swarnarekha are increasing due to the increasing encroachment of river area. This apart, wrong design of projects like Marine Drive, Adityapur Toll Bridge, Sonari- Kanderbera bridge and Moharda water supply in Jamshedpur, the water flow of the river has been blocked and the water level remains high even after low flow of water.
In the meeting, it was decided that a coordination committee should be formed comprising East Singhbhum and Seraikela Kharsawan district administrtion and the municipalities of Mango, Jamshedpur, Kapali, Jugsalai, Adityapur for finding out ways to protect bank of the river.
MLA Saryu Rai requested the Chief Secretary over phone that for this the Deputy Commissioners of both the districts and the secretaries of urban development , water resources, drinking water and sanitation, forest and environment, revenue and disaster management departments should be and form a high level coordination committee to look into the issue.
