Jamshedpur, June 10: ‘Aangen,’ a Santali film from Jamshedpur, has been selected for the 18th Mumbai International Film Festival. Scheduled to take place in Mumbai from June 15 to 21, the festival will showcase films in various cities including Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Pune. ‘Aangen,’ a 12-minute short film, is set to premiere on June 16 and will be screened across the mentioned metros.
This marks the first time that a Santali film has been selected for the prestigious Mumbai International Film Festival. Directed and produced by Raviraj Murmu, a Film and Television Institute of India, Pune alumnus, ‘Aangen’ was shot in tribal-dominated areas surrounding Jamshedpur, including Karandih, Turamdih, Cholagoda, and Kinutola.
Featuring artistes Ramchandra Mardi, Saloni, Jitrai, and Phoolmani, the film has been enriched with music composed by folk singer Durgaprasad Murmu and arranged by Nunaram. The film’s music director is Nishant Ram Teke.
Aiming to elevate tribal films from Jharkhand to national and international platforms, five youths from Kolhan, Raviraj Murmu, Sanjay Kumar Tudu, Seral Murmu, Krishna Soren, and Rahul Biruli have established two film production companies– Dalma Motion Pictures and Sanvata Studio. ‘Aangen’ is a collaborative effort under the banner of these two production houses.
Raviraj Murmu shared insights into the film’s storyline, which revolves around the realms of Earth and Dev Lok. The narrative follows a shepherd from Earth who falls in love with a woman from Dev Lok and embarks on a journey intertwined with divine intervention and earthly love. With meticulous attention to detail, the story promises captivating twists, ensuring an immersive experience for the audience.
