Jamshedpur, Jan 23: Hundreds of Sahiyas of urban areas staged a demonstration before the Community Health Centre at Road No 1, Mango, on Monday in support of their various demands. They mainly demanded hike in remuneration and regularization of their services.
“At present there are 240 Sahiyas deputed in the urban parts of Jamshedpur. Each Sahiya gets Rs 2000 per month. Even this meagre amount is not paid regularly. This is why we have organized this sit-in to demand pay hike and regularization,” said one of the Sahiyas.
The agitating Sahiyas demanded a minimum salary of Rs 18,000 per month. They said they have to work under adverse working conditions and hence they deserve better service benefits.
