Jamshedpur, June 19: Kulwinder Singh, the National Convenor of Rashtriya Sanatani Sikh Sabha (RSSS) and Chief Advocate of Baridih Gurdwara Committee, has strongly advised Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Bhagwant Mann against meddling in Sikh religious affairs. Singh expressed his concerns through a letter addressed to Bhagwant Mann and also shared his views on social media.

Singh raised objections to the Punjab government’s proposal to introduce a new clause in the All India Gurdwara Act (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee) of 1925. The proposed clause suggests broadcasting the Kirtan Darbar, a sacred religious event held at Sri Darbar Sahib Golden Temple, free of cost on all channels. According to Singh, the spiritual teachings and sermons of the Gurus should not be treated as general broadcast content.

Highlighting the significance and sanctity of the Kirtan Darbar, Singh urged Bhagwant Mann, a fellow Sikh himself, to understand the importance of preserving its dignity. He emphasized that those who observe the broadcast, whether Hindu or Sikh, respectfully cover their heads as a mark of reverence. Singh expressed concerns about maintaining the solemnity and spiritual essence of the event if it is made freely accessible to all.

Singh argued that the broadcast of the Kirtan Darbar cannot be compared to free electricity or water. He questioned whether the essence and sanctity of the event would be upheld if it is made readily available to the public. Singh further called upon Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to prioritize issues such as education and agriculture in Punjab, as these areas are crucial for the welfare and development of the state and its people. Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, Chairman of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, supported Singh’s stance, emphasizing that any changes to the Act can only be made if the SGPC recommends amendments to the Government of India. Singh advised Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to seek the opinion and guidance of experts within the SGPC before proceeding with any modifications.
