Jamshedpur, February 26: Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato chaired a meeting of the district road safety committee meeting at district collectorate with discussion on reducing road mishaps.
There was also discussion on road repair widening and improving traffic system.
During review of road accidents, necessary guidelines were given to maintain smooth traffic system, repair/widen roads as per requirement and make signage, speed breakers. Instructions were given to check illegal parking of vehicles on the road despite no entry in Marine Drive and illegal stoppage of buses at Mango Bus Stand roundabout and Mango bridge.
Directive was issued to take action against people who park heavy vehicles on the road near Burmines Tube Gate. The Executive Engineer of the Road Construction Division assured to get the repair work done in the next 10 days to the potholes that occurred at many places on the road in Tata-Hata Road. Simultaneously, it was directed to make speed breakers near Sadar Hospital. Instructions were given to prevent encroachment of the road around Sonari Airport and collect fines from the hawkers and vegetable vendors.
The District Education Officer said that the affidavit has been submitted by the parents of about 82000 children below the age of 18 years in the district that their children do not use the vehicle. Instructions were given to organize awareness programs in all schools on every Saturday to bring awareness related to road safety among the children.
It was informed in the cases of hit and run that from January 2021 to December 2021, 36 cases were received in which compensation amount has been given to 26 victims’ families and remaining applications are under process.
Traffic Inspector said that in the month of January, a total fine amounting to Rs 29,63, 450 has been collected from 3906 vehicles. The Project Director of NHAI was directed to connect the roads of rural and urban areas which meet directly with the NH and connect them to the main road by making chain lines at such places so that road accidents can be reduced.
The representative of the Excise Department said that in the raids conducted against the sale of illicit liquor in Dhaba located on the banks of NH and State Highway, a total of 88 cases were registered in the month of January in which a fine of Rs 1 lakh 9 thousand has been recovered.
