Jamshedpur, April 5: Adija Chakraborty, a resident near Chinmaya School in Telco-8/13, fell victim to cybercriminals who swindled her of Rs 82,500 under the guise of a fraudulent Naukri.com scheme. Adija lodged an FIR against unknown perpetrators at Bistupur Cyber Police Station following the incident.

According to Adija, she received a call on March 28 from a number identified as 9654739932, claiming to be from Naukri.com. The caller sent an email, threatening legal action if she did not respond. Allegedly, the caller warned of a court-issued warrant, demanding a Rs 52,000 fine and implying a ban on employment for 5-8 years if not paid promptly.

Fearing repercussions, Adija engaged in further communication, eventually being directed to a purported lawyer. She was coerced into paying ₹9,900 as legal fees via PhonePe. Subsequently, additional sums amounting to ₹25,900 and ₹26,800 were demanded under various pretexts, which she also transferred through PhonePe.

Assurances of refunding the entire amount, minus a nominal deduction of ₹100, were made, but subsequent demands for further payments totaling ₹17,500 were made. Upon expressing concerns about the return of funds, Adija was rebuffed, and the perpetrator disconnected the call, leaving her realizing she had been deceived.

Police authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter, aiming to apprehend the perpetrators behind this fraudulent scheme.
