Jamshedpur reports first suspected Dengue death

Jamshedpur: The city is currently grappling with the ominous spectre of a potential dengue outbreak, as the first suspected death has been reported from the Govindpur area. Additionally, an alarming number of 24 patients across various hospitals have tested positive for the life-threatening dengue virus, raising concerns among the local populace and health authorities alike.

A somber cloud hung over the city when news broke of the demise of 12-year-old Sneha Kumari, a resident of Govindpur. The young girl had been suffering from a suspected case of dengue, having exhibited fever for a duration of five days. Sneha Kumari was admitted to the Tata Motors Hospital for immediate medical attention. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, her condition deteriorated, and she breathed her last in the Intensive Care Unit of Tata Motors Hospital during the course of treatment.

The grief-stricken family members of Sneha Kumari shared that the attending doctor had observed the presence of all the classic symptoms associated with the dengue virus. This unfortunate incident serves as a chilling reminder of the potential dangers posed by the dengue outbreak in the region.

As the monsoon season takes its toll on the city, a staggering total of 24 new patients have been admitted to various hospitals within the past 24 hours, all displaying symptoms indicative of a dengue infection. The East Singhbhum district health department has promptly taken action, sending blood samples from these cases to the microbiology department of MGM Medical College in Dimna for testing.

Dengue, a virus transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, tends to proliferate during the monsoon season. The local health authorities have intensified their efforts in response to this outbreak, issuing an alert to hospitals, nursing homes, and primary health centers across the city. These medical facilities have been instructed to establish isolation wards to effectively handle and contain potential dengue cases.

In light of the prevailing circumstances, health department officials are urging the public to exercise caution and remain vigilant. High fever, accompanied by symptoms such as headache and vomiting, could be indicative of dengue infection. The importance of blood tests to monitor platelet count cannot be overstated in these critical times.

As the residents of Jamshedpur grapple with the looming dengue outbreak, the local health department is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus. The tragedy of Sneha Kumari’s untimely demise serves as a stark reminder of the urgency to address and combat this growing health concern within the city and its surrounding areas.
