Jamshedpur reports 4 deaths, 303 new COVID cases, another highest one-day surge

Active cases shoot up to 1351

Jamshedpur, April 10:  The COVID-19 pandemic in Jamshedpur hit another a grim milestone on Saturday when daily cases crossed the 300 mark for the first time since the Covid pandemic.Four COVID deaths have also been reported in the city on April 10.  Earlier on April 9 city reported 256 positive cases.

According to East Singhbhum district health department, Jamshedpur reported 303 new coronavirus cases, the highest single-day spike in the city since the beginning of the outbreak. Total samples tested were 3061 in the last 24 hours.

Earlier during the first wave of virus 223 COVID-19 infections were reported in a single day in Jamshedpur on October 8, 2020. 

With the new infections, the total number of cases in Jamshedpur has surpassed 20 thousand.    

The death toll in Jamshedpur now stands at 386 with 4 new fatalities on Saturday, April 10.  

Of the 303 new cases, 293 are from Jamshedpur urban area, 6 from Chakulia, 3 from Ghatsila, and one from Baharagora.  

There are 1351 active COVID-19 cases in Jamshedpur. The infection tally in the Steel City has gone up to 20467 and a total of 386 fatalities due to the disease have been recorded so far.

As many 18730 people have recovered from COVID-19 so far with 201 recoveries recorded in the last 24-hours. Over 3000 COVID-19 tests, including 839 RT-PCR, were conducted in the last 24 hours in the city. The hotspot areas of the Steel City Mango, Kadma, Sonari, Bistupur and Sakchi continue to witness a virulent spread of COVID.

The district administration said it would go for aggressive containment and stricter enforcement of health protocols such as wearing masks and keeping social distance.

The surge has led to an increase in hospitalisation.

East Singhbhum district administration has conducted 242292 test per million in the district. The recovery rate in Jamshedpur has dropped down to 92.89% while the mortality rate is 1.89 %.

So far in Jamshedpur 665933 samples have been collected out of which 644980 have been tested and 624513 have turned out to be negative.
