Jamshedpur records 51 mm rainfall

Jamshedpur: Incessant rain hit that the city on Saturday led
to water clogging in the low-lying areas and throne life out of gear. The city recorded 51 mm rainfall.
According to Meteorological office in Sonari, the low pressure in the
Bay of Bengal is bringing good rainfall in the region and the
situation is likely to remain the same in next 24 hours.
Areas like Mango, Jugsalai, Bagbera, Pardih have been worst hit.
Water clogging at these areas has made difficult for people to move.
Most of the roads are dotted with stalled vehicles, adding to the
chaos. In some low lying areas several autos have been reported
stranded in water.
The city has turned into a motorists’ nightmare. Many roads are
undergoing concretisation and pipeline is being laid in several areas
like Jugsalai and Baghbera. As a result the motorists have faced hell
during rains. Many motorists have found it difficult to distinguish
between the road and the dug up place due to water clogging.
Meanwhile resident of Jugsalai complained of water clogging and heap
of garbage spread in several nooks and corners of the areas.
Residents complain that in the last few years, the drains that carry
sewage and rainwater to the sea have been blocked in several places,
thanks to encroachments. During rains, water overflows and floods the
streets, often entering houses. Apart from encroachments, sand and
stones have been dumped on the drains in several parts of the areas.
“If it rains, the street is flooded and after a while, it becomes
slushy, posing risk to motorists,” said Satendra Kumar a resident of
Naya Bazaar, Jugsalai. Often, people are forced to wade through
knee-deep water during the monsoons.
Traffic was disrupted as major main roads in the city were inundated.
Commuters had a tough time wading through knee-deep water, at some
places, to reach their destinations. There is also a fear of an
outbreak of water-borne diseases.
“The monsoon is in its full fury in the Chottanagpur plateau region.
For the next two days it will lashed the city mercilessly. The monsoon
is being a relief from the scorching summer heat and people do not
mind at all being inconvenienced as they were prepared for such an
eventuality,” said official Meteorological office
The forecast for the next 48 hours said rain/thundershowers would
occur at most places over Chottanagpur plateau region and at many
places over interior Singhbhum. Moderate to rather heavy rain would
occur at most places over all the districts of Kolhan
