Jamshedpur, May 10: The Meteorological Department has predicted that there will be no respite from the prevailing sweltering heat conditions over the next three days especially in the Kolhan Region with the mercury level hovering above the 40 degree Celsius mark. The only note of partial relief sounded by the weather department was that Cyclone Mocha building up over the Bay of Bengal and predicted to hit the coast of Bangladesh via Myanmar on May 10 may create a partially cloudy sky in the Santhal Region of eastern and central parts of Jharkhand. These conditions can cause a slight drop in temperature. This relief will be short lived as, as per the Meteorological Department’s forecast, post May 16, the summer heat was expected to return with venom. The maximum temperature recorded in Jamshedpur on Wednesday stood at 42.6 degrees Celsius. The streets wore a deserted look due to the extreme heat conditions post midday.

The Meteorological Department has issued an advisory for citizens not to venture out of homes between 11 am and 3 pm. Meteorologist Abhishek Anand stated that the Mocha storm rising from the Bay of South East Bengal would turn into a cyclone on the night of 10 May and hit the coast of Bangladesh via Myanmar. During this period, there will be partly cloudy sky in the Santhal Region of the east-central part of Jharkhand and spots of rain at some places on May 14 and 15.
