‘One Vision, One Tata Steel’ Theme for Founder’s Day

Jamshedpur, February 27: The steel city is preparing to celebrate the 187th birth anniversary of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, founder of Tata Steel and Jamshedpur, on March 3, 2026. This year’s Founder’s Day will be observed on the theme “One Vision, One Tata Steel,” highlighting unity and integration across the organisation.

Final preparations are underway for a series of events, including city-wide illumination, public access to Jubilee Park, laser shows, homage ceremonies and exhibitions.

The illumination at Jubilee Park will be inaugurated on March 2 at 6:30 pm by Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran. The park will remain open for public viewing from March 3 to March 6, except March 4, between 5 pm and 11 pm.

Founder’s Day celebrations will be held at the Tata Steel Jamshedpur Works on March 3, with the presence of Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata and other senior leaders of the Tata Group.

Pedestrian entry from 5 pm to 10 pm will be allowed through Sakchi Gate, CFE Gate and Nicco Jubilee Park Gate, while exits will be through Sakchi Gate, CFE Gate and Parsi Colony Gate. Vehicular entry between 10 pm and 11 pm will follow a designated route covering CFE Gate, Sakchi Gate, Nicco Jubilee Park Gate, Parsi Colony Gate and the JN Tata Statue area before returning to CFE Gate. A laser show will be held daily from March 3 to 6, except March 4, at 7 pm, 7:45 pm and 8:30 pm.

The details were shared at a press conference at the Centre for Excellence by Tata Steel Vice President (Corporate Services) DB Sundara Ramam, Tata Steel UISL Managing Director Atul Bhatnagar and General Manager RK Singh.

Addressing the media, Sundara Ramam said the theme reflects the company’s renewed focus on collaboration across departments and geographies. He said as Tata Steel has grown into a multinational organisation, the aim is to strengthen integration and teamwork.

“Some of our younger colleagues feel that in such a large organisation, what the left hand is doing, the right hand may not always know. Those of us who have been here for 30–35 years may not see it that way, but this feedback is important,” he said. “Unless we break these verticals and bring synergy, we will not achieve the level of performance and profitability that such a large organisation is capable of.”

He explained that the initiative is not limited to India but extends to Tata Steel’s international operations as well. Citing the example of Performance Improvement Teams (PITs), he said these teams work across locations such as Jamshedpur, Kalinganagar, Meramandali, as well as the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

“The idea is simple. Whether it is marketing and sales, hot metal production, steel making or any other function, parameters should be benchmarked globally. If one plant is performing better, others should learn from it. If one is lagging, we must support and uplift it. Best practices must flow seamlessly across all locations,” he said.

He clarified that this transformation would not happen overnight. “This is a large organisation with operations across multiple countries. It will take time and consistent benchmarking. But we have begun this journey with clear intent,” he said.

On being asked whether there were any cost-cutting measures in this year’s celebrations, Sundara Ramam was categorical. “There is no reduction in expenditure. We are not cutting even a single rupee; in fact, we are enhancing arrangements where required,” he said.

Responding to questions on the illumination arrangements, RK Singh said the company follows a philosophy of continuous improvement and innovation. He clarified that the lighting arrangements are based on creativity and human effort, dismissing speculation about the use of artificial intelligence. On expenditure, Sundara Ramam said there has been no cost-cutting and that arrangements have been enhanced wherever required.

Major roads across the city will be illuminated, including stretches from CFE Roundabout to CH Area, CH Area to Airport, KS Link Road, Rankini Mandir to Kadma Thana, Postal Park to TSUISL and Agrico to Baridih and Tinplate Kali Mandir. Several prominent roundabouts such as Lady Gandhi, Centre Point, Beldih Church, Adityapur Bridge, Jubilee Park Sakchi Gate, PN Bose, Rankini Mandir, TMH, Sakchi and Mango Bus Stand will also be decorated with lights.

Key buildings including Tata Workers’ Union Office, Clock Tower at Golmuri, DC and SSP offices, TMH and dispensaries, Chummery Guest House, Tata Steel UISL Corporate Office, Centre for Excellence, Tatanagar Railway Station and the Institute of Engineers will be illuminated. Major parks such as Jubilee Park, Sir Dorabji Tata Park, Postal Park, Bhagwan Birsa Munda Park and Centenary Park at Tinplate will also be part of the celebrations.

To ensure smooth management, parking facilities have been arranged at Sacred Heart Convent School, near Sakchi Gate, Bodhi Temple Ground and Armoury Ground. Around 200 police personnel, 100 security staff and 75 NCC cadets will be deployed. Security infrastructure includes 23 CCTV cameras, 24 door frame metal detectors, watch towers at the JN Tata Statue area and Agni structure, along with a public address system. Ambulances will be stationed at the JN Tata Statue area and near Jayanti Sarovar. Control room and helpline numbers have also been issued for public assistance.

The homage ceremony to the Founder will be held at Postal Park in Bistupur on March 3 at 9:30 am. Public entry will be from the Bistupur Police Station side gate, and a separate enclosure has been arranged for media. Members of the public can pay homage from 10 am onwards.

Touching upon the broader significance of Founder’s Day, Sundara Ramam said the celebration belongs not only to the company but to the entire city. “Founder’s Day is not just about lighting and ceremony. It is about honouring our legacy and reaffirming our commitment to Jamshedpur and all our stakeholders. The whole city is part of this celebration,” he said.

He also spoke about the company’s approach towards maintaining public spaces. Any damaged or underutilised land parcels are being reviewed for conversion into parks or open spaces for community use. “Wherever something has deteriorated or broken down, we will prioritise its improvement. We will not wait for a particular date to act. Our goal is to create and maintain green, open spaces for the people,” he said.

As part of the celebrations, TechEx 2026, the 15th Science and Technology Exhibition, will be held at SNTI. It will be inaugurated on March 2 and remain open to visitors from March 3 to 5 between 9 am and 6 pm, with March 4 open till 12 noon. The exhibition will showcase 35 projects selected from 166 ideas, including 25 internal and 10 external entries. The projects focus on productivity, sustainability, cost optimisation, safety and reliability. Working prototypes, digital solutions and interactive models will be displayed, offering visitors an opportunity to see innovations by trainees.

Founder’s Day Sports FY’26 will be organised on March 2 and 3 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex. Around 350 participants will compete in 33 events, including transpersons, specially abled children, corporate executives and trainees from various centres and academies. The final events will take place on the afternoon of March 3 in the presence of senior leadership and office bearers of the Tata Workers’ Union.
