Jamshedpur, Sep 13: Heavy rains that lashed the city, led to water clogging at the burn care unit of MGM Medical College and Hospital today.
Gushing rain water entered through an opening in the back side of the unit that filled the area with mud, leading the floor up to knee-deep. It forced the patients and their attendants to remain confined to their bed for a long time in the morning.
Concerned over the situation of the burn patients, the medical college hospital management in the afternoon shifted all the nine patients to another ward located in the newly-constructed six-storeyed hospital complex as a temporary arrangement. After getting shifted to the new ward at about 1 pm, the patients heaved a sigh of relief.

“We were shocked to see rain water gushing inside. I was shocked to look at the floor which was inundated with muddy water. I was forced to remain confined to bed. I could not go to the bathroom,” said a patient.
Another patient said that the premises were flooded with water. A resident of Mango said there was water everywhere. The condition at the hospital is pitiable and they are concerned for their health.

The nine burn patients who were shifted to the new hospital block included six women patients, but none of them was in a life-threatening condition.
An official confirmed about the burn care unit getting inundated with the rain water. ” Due to heavy rains the water entered the floor. Moreover, the floor level of the burn care unit has come down due to the construction of a new six-storeyed hospital block adjoining it. Not only the level of the burn care unit came down, but also the drainage system connecting to it has also been damaged completely due to the new construction. This was the reason that the rain water entered into the burn care unit so much that it inundated the floor,” the official said.
