Jamshedpur: To bolster passenger safety and curb night-time crimes, Railway SP Praveen Pushkar directed personnel on station and train duty to remain vigilant, especially during the night. Highlighting that most thefts occur in coaches during late hours, the SP issued instructions during an inspection of the Tatanagar Railway Police Station on Tuesday.
Station in-charge Rampyare Ram was instructed to form a dedicated team of young jawans and officers for patrolling duties. The Railway SP also called for identifying trains with frequent incidents of theft and deploying plainclothes jawans on these routes. This measure aims to address crimes such as theft, snatching, and molestation of passengers in moving trains.
In addition, the Railway SP emphasized the need for swift action against criminals. Investigation officers, including Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors, were ordered to apprehend warrantees with assistance from the RPF and local police. They were also directed to ensure timely submission of charge-sheets and presentation of witnesses in court, alongside confiscating properties of absconding offenders.
Show cause notices issued to officers
During the inspection, Railway SP Pushkar identified significant lapses in operations and issued show cause notices to three officers, including Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors. The officers face departmental action if satisfactory responses are not provided.
Despite prior knowledge of the inspection, police officers were found updating case records in haste. The SP reprimanded them for various shortcomings, including delays in serving warrants and proclamations. The duty roster and investigation progress of registered cases were reviewed, with the SP warning of strict action against negligence in passenger security.
This initiative underscores the Railway SP’s commitment to ensuring safety and order in the Tatanagar railway jurisdiction.
