Jamshedpur, Nov 15: Train movement on Howrah-Mumbai route was hit following the derailment of a good train. The mishap took place in the wee hours of the day at Jharsuguda under Chakradharpur Railway Division.
Following the accident, 02259 Geetanjali Superfast Special train that left Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus for Howrah got delayed by five hours and 02833 Howrah Superfast Special leaving from Ahmedabad for Howrah reached Tatanagar four hours late from its scheduled time.
According to the information received, a goods train derailed at Jharsuguda Railway Yard at one o’clock on the night of 14 November. Following the incident, the goods train was not only derailed but its coaches were also badly affected by the overhead wires and poles. The train movement on the Howrah Mumbai route came to a complete halt.

After the incident, the up train was gradually diverted from the second line. At the same time, trains coming from the down line have been stopped at nearby stations including Jharsuguda and Rourkela so that the passengers traveling in the trains do not face any kind of problem. At the same time, the work of restoration of the track is going on. Railway cranes have been engaged in restoring the traffic movement. At the same time, many senior railway officials have also reached the spot after the accident.
“ SER has called for an inquiry into this accident. There have been three train accidents and derailment of goods trains in the CKP division. Earlier, a goods train derailed near Gamharia station on the Howrah-Mumbai route. Apart from this, two goods trains were also derailed at Tatanagar railway station yard,” said an official.
