Jamshedpur: A high-level virtual meeting chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, was held on Thursday to review the progress and accelerate the expansion of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections across urban centres.
The meeting brought together representatives from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, officials of GAIL (India) Limited, and senior functionaries from various urban local bodies. Deliberations focused on scaling up domestic PNG connections and strengthening the gas distribution pipeline network in cities.
Emphasising the need for coordinated efforts, the Secretary underscored the importance of seamless collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure wider access to clean, safe, and affordable fuel. Urban local bodies were directed to facilitate timely approvals and extend necessary support for the laying of PNG pipelines.
Officials highlighted that expanding PNG coverage would significantly reduce dependence on conventional fuels, contribute to environmental sustainability, and ensure a safer and more convenient gas supply for households.
Representing the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), the Deputy Municipal Commissioner Krishna Kumar also participated in the meeting.
Discussions included strategies to expand the PNG network in the city and enhance household connectivity.
The meeting also reviewed key challenges in PNG rollout and explored practical solutions to expedite implementation.
