Jamshedpur, April 26: With the mercury shooting past 43 degree Celsius, the going got tougher for the people of Jamshedpur on Tuesday. Power scenario in the city seemed to be heading for a toss as the citizens continued to reel under frequent power cuts caused by unscheduled load-shedding.

In view of the poor power supply to various non-company areas of the city, members of Rashtriya Seva Samiti, a local outfit, met the General Managre of Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (JUVNL) Pratosh Kumar today and demanded measures to give relief to the citizens.

“We have apprised the JUVNL GM about the serious health hazard and other adverse effects of power cuts. We informed him about the way people are forced to live under the current situation. People are falling sick due to heatwaves and scorching weather as they are unable to avail the facility of fans, coolers or ACs since there is no electricity for most part of the day,” said a member of the outfit.

The outfit members said children’s studies were getting adversely affected due to power cuts in the evening and late night. ICSE Board exams are on and children are finding it hard to concentrate on their studies due to power cuts, they said.

According to officials at the Govindpur power grid, “The Golmuri grid needs 50 megawatt of power supply everyday. But it is only getting 30 megawatt. This is the cause of the current situation. We hope to resolve the issue soon.”

The outfit members threatened to gherao the electricity office in case the power supply does not improve soon.
