Mail News Service

Jamshedpur: Deputy Commissioner cum District Returning Officer of East Singhbhum Ravi Shankar Shukla convened a meeting of representatives of various political parties to discuss about accounting keeping of poll expenses. He appealed to the participants to strictly comply with the Model Code of Conduct.

Shukla said poll expenses were an important aspect of elections and hence the instructions issued by the Election Commission of India in this regard were to be followed by all the candidates. For every candidate contesting state Assembly elections, Election Commission has set an expenditure limit of Rs 28 lakh. For every constituency, an expenditure observer has been deputed. In all, there are six assistant expenditure observers across the six Assembly constituencies.

Shukla appealed to all candidates and political parties to not cast aspersions on the character or personal life of their rivals. Cases would be lodged against political parties or candidates fomenting religious fanaticism or communal disturbance, he said.
