Jamshedpur street vendors get PMSY loans at Sidgora Town Hall Mega Mela

Jamshedpur, Dec 5: Street vendors were given loans of Rs 10,000 each under Pradhan Mantri Swanidhi Yojna (PMSY) at a Mega Loan Mela organized by Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) at the Town hall in Sidgora. Thousands of street vendors have been beneficiaries of this PMSY loan scheme.

Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta who visited the Mega Loan Mela campus said that street vendors had suffered heavy economic setbacks during the COVID period and although the amount of loan was not very big, the amount could help them to resettle their business. He assured that the government would launch more schemes for them. Banna observed, “This Mega Loan Mela is aimed to strengthen SHGs and connect them to businesse for which they are being connected to credit linkage. Simultaneously small traders are being provided means to recoup their earning ways through this PMSY Mega Loan Mela. The state government is committed to improving the lot of low income earners so that they too can lead a life of respect.”

Among the dignitaries were Jharkhand Health and Disaster management Minister Banna Gupta, parliamentarian Bidyut Baran Mahto and East Jamshedpur legislator Saryu Roy. They went around the stalls set up by banks and enquired about the loans and gave them necessary directives.

At the Mega Loan Mela at the Sidgora Town Hall 313 pavement hawkers put in their applications out of which 258 were sanctioned. Three SHGs were granted credit linkage. A total of Rs Six lakh in loans was disbursed at the Loan Mela.

During the lockdown period and after, the street vendors suffered financially and the PMSY was envisaged to bring their business back on tracks as also to provide them capital to boost their earning ways through bank loans. JNAC had undertaken a survey and marked out 3,767 street hawkers out of whom 3590 applied for PMSY loans. While 1,205 applications have been sanctioned 1,016 loans have so far been disbursed.

Other officials present at the Mega Loan Mela included JNAC Special Officer Krishna Kumar, State Mission Manager Kumar Vam, LDMS Diwakar Sinha, all City Managers, Nagar Mission Managers, representatives of various banks and all COs and CRPs of JNAC.
