Jamshedpur, April 9: On the directives of Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate, Vijaya Jadhav, the Excise department and police have been conducting raids in several areas in and around the city and destroying illegal hooch dens in view of Ram Navami festival that is just around the corner.
The Inspector of Excise Department under the guidance of the Assistant Commissioner of Excise has been conducting raids in the course of which one illegal brew distillery furnace was destroyed in Lupungdih under Birsanagar police station and two illegal Mahua liquor godowns in Ulidih Basti and Sankosai Road No 5 were sealed.
Illegal liquor was confiscated. Dried Mahua flowers weighing 16,000 kg and 850 liters of Mahua liquor were seized during the raid. Illegally brewed liquor was seized during raids at Kharangajhar under Telco police station, Kitadih under Parsudih police station, Baldev Basti under Jugsalai police station, Jayprabhanagar under Kadma police station and Jhabri Basti under Sonari police station. Cases have been registered against absconding hooch brewers and stockists.
