Jamshedpur, Nov 11: Security in the steel city has been beefed up in view of Diwali. Additional police forces have been deployed at sensitive places including Railway Station and crowded places in the city. All police stations have been asked to keep a tab on spots infamous for gambling.
Senior superintendent of police M Tamil Vanan has already instructed all officers-in-charge to take stern steps against those found indulging in gambling. They have been asked to act on each and every tip-off they receive.
“As per orders if any complaint of gambling was found to be true in a thana area, the officer-in-charge concerned would be taken to task. We have reports of gambling at Jugsalai, Sonari, Sakchi and Sitaramdera in the run-up to Diwali,” said a senior official.
He said that police have made elaborate security arrangements for peaceful conduct of Diwali in the district. In view of heavy rush in the market areas, adequate police personnel were deployed at important intersections for resolving traffic congestion in the city, he added.
He went on to add that several preventive measures have been taken to deal with any adverse situation in the district. He has directed the fire department officers to ensure that fire tenders are stationed at important places and other places in view of possibility of fire.
The official said that in view of heavy rush in the market, a constable had been deployed to guard prominent businessmen including big jewellery shop owners in the city. Police deployed in market areas were vigilant to avoid untoward incidents. For peaceful conduct of Diwali, adequate police forces have been deployed at sensitive and crowded places to avoid untoward incidents in the city. Police patrolling has been intensified at various places in the city.
Police stations incharge have been directed to launch checking drives at important places including bus stops, railway stations, crowded places and market areas apart from anti sabotage checking, dog squad, bomb disposal and other teams have been deployed for conducting checking drive at exit and entry points in the city.
“Jharkhand Armed Police and District Armed Police jawans will be pressed into service along with regular forces and the existing Tiger Mobile units,” said the official.
The SSP has also instructed all 17 police stations to use their network to gather information on gambling spots and conduct surprise raids.
