Jamshedpur, Oct 16: With Durga Puja round the corner, the district traffic police are gearing up to tackle the challenge of traffic snarls during the week-long celebrations.
The traffic department, in collaboration with the Central Durga Puja Committee, is formulating a comprehensive strategy to ease the flow of traffic on the bustling streets.
The city, witnessing a surge in the number of vehicles, especially two-wheelers, during the festival, poses a formidable challenge for the traffic police. With limited personnel, the department is exploring innovative solutions to manage the vehicular and pedestrian influx.

To enhance their capabilities, the traffic police are contemplating the deployment of two dozen NCC cadets. These cadets could be stationed strategically on roads leading to popular Puja pandals, such as the Kharkai Bridge, a crucial link between steel city and Adityapur, known for witnessing heavy traffic during the festivities.
Heavy vehicle restrictions on the Kharkai Bridge during Puja, imposed by the Seraikela Kharsawan district administration, further necessitated additional personnel.
Areas like Telco (HS road), Sonari (near Kagalnagar), Sakchi (Aam Bagan and Kasidih), Bistupur (Rani Kudar), Kadma (Rankini Temple), Burmamines, and Bhuiyandih are expected to experience high traffic, demanding careful management by traffic personnel.
The primary objective of involving NCC cadets is to facilitate smooth traffic flow and ensure accident-free festivities. However, authorities emphasize the need for cooperation from revellers to adhere to traffic rules and contribute to the success of the initiative.
While NCC cadets lent their support to manage traffic at specific pandals last year, this year, there hasn’t been any official communication from the district administration regarding traffic duties.
Residents are already feeling the impact, with longer travel times and frustrating traffic jams. The efforts to involve NCC cadets aim to bring relief and ensure a seamless flow of vehicles during the festive period.
