Jamshedpur : Steel city police on Friday took stern actions against those violating the lockdown orders at Sakchi and Bistupur, the two commercial centres.

The cops started with checking drive inside the market wherein those without helmets, driving licence and other valid documents were caught and asked to pay fines between Rs 500 and Rs 1000 as per the Motor Vehicles Act.

Moreover, a couple of shops selling garments and stationery items at Sakchi were clandestinely selling their products and people were entering those shops. Apart from imposing fines, the cops also sealed a couple of shops for violating the lockdown orders.

“We got a tip off that some of the shopkeepers were violating the lockdown by clandestinely selling their products to customers inside the market. We therefore started the drive on Friday morning at 10 am which continued for two hours, ” said Kunal Singh, officer-in-charge of Sakchi police station.

He said that a similar drive was undertaken at Bistupur market. Fines were imposed on as many as 30 people at Sakchi while another 20 were caught in Bistupur market , who ended up paying fines.

Meanwhile, traffic police jointly with city police could be seen vigilant at most of the commercial hubs seeking information from two-wheelers and four-wheelers about their reason for coming on the road.
“ In order to spread awareness we have undertaken public announcement at market areas for staying at home during lockdown and it seems to have significant effect as people in general have stayed indoors,” said an official. However people are seen roaming on roads without following orders.
The administration has made it mandatory for everyone to wear mask (either three-layered or made of cloth) if they are outside their homes. And those violating this rule are being booked by police.
An official informed that if anyone found roaming without a mask will be booked under section 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of IPC.
