Jamshedpur police conduct intensive checks to curb crime, COVID-19

Jamshedpur, Dec. 26: In view of New Year and threat of fresh wave of Covid-19, special squads of cops have started out patrolling the city roads after the dusk and will conduct surprise inspection of hotels and clubs where the gathering of people is increasing as the New Year is inching closer. On Saturday, the inspection was carried over 100 violators were persecuted.

Revealing about the steps, a police official said special squads of cops are carrying out patrolling the city roads after the dusk and conducting surprise inspection of hotels and clubs.

“We have been asked to strictly ensure the following of Covid-19 protocols. People need to be careful. We also want to keep an eye on rowdy elements and those violating norms. Such people will be prosecuted after getting subject to alcohol test,” said the official. The officer said focus will be made on the safety of women and girls so as to ensure that the latter may find no hurdles from anyone in coming out of their houses and returning home safely.

The East Singhbhum district  police set up a 25-member squad comprising inspectors, sub-inspectors and constables from the excise department had carried out twin surveillance shifts — one in the morning and the other in the evening.

The police decided to intensify the drive against tipplers as a number of hooliganism and clashes by anti-social elements has been reported from the steel city and the adjoining Adityapur in Seraikela-Kharsawan district during the past two days.

“As per the plans the squads will be on the streets for checking of drunk-drive may arrest anyone if found involved in rash-driving or drunk driving. During the drive which will last till late in the night we will ensure that the anti-social elements may not indulge themselves in clashes on the streets and also at the public places like hotels, and also in the clubs,” said the senior police officer.
