Jamshedpur, April 3: The Jamshedpur police, in a major breakthrough, have apprehended six members of an interstate gang of marijuana smugglers following the recent arrest of a physically challenged person in possession of 20 kg of ganja.
The arrested persons were identified as Rajiv Kumar Yadav from Vaishali district, Bihar; Sunil Kumar Baitha from West Champaran; Raj Kumar Bind from Bettiah; and Sumit Kumar, Gaurav Kumar and Rajesh Kumar from Patna.
City SP Mukesh Lunayat revealed that the police received intelligence reports indicating the arrival of interstate ganja smugglers at Mango Bus Stand from Odisha, with intentions to transport the contraband to Bihar via bus. Acting swiftly on this information, a team was formed under the leadership of Head Quarter DSP-1, with officers from Sitaramdera and Mango police stations.
The team intercepted Rajiv Kumar Yadav at Mango Bus Stand, seizing 7 kg of ganja from his possession. During interrogation, Yadav divulged that his accomplices had already departed on a bus bound for Bettiah, Bihar, carrying illegal marijuana. The raiding team pursued the bus and intercepted it on NH 33, recovering an additional 46 kg of ganja from the five other associates. Yadav confessed that the group had planned to transport the ganja from Odisha to Bihar.
