Jamshedpur: City police here claimed a major breakthrough in the case of gang-rape of a minor girl from Kolkata by arresting three suspected culprits. Those arrested include the son of a police officer who had dumped the victim near Hathi Ghora Mandir in Sakchi in the wee hours on the day of crime.
According to SP City Prabhat Kumar, the accused persons, identified as Akash Sharma, resident of Sakchi Jail Chowk, Chandan Kumar, resident of Dimna Road and Kadir Karim, resident of Sakchi, were arrested on the basis of a thorough police probe. The three had called the girl all the way from Kolkata under pretext of taking her on a visit to various city malls. They raped her in the car and also assaulted her on showing resistance.
Cops identified the accused persons on the basis of CCTV footage collected from different places across the city including Tatanagar railway station, Burmamines and Sakchi. The woman was found being forced into the car by the accused persons in one of the CCTV footages found by the cops. Soon, the cops found out the car number and identified its owner.
Akash Sharma is the son of a police officer. Soon after his arrest, efforts were made to get him out of the case. But senior police officials did not allow the case against him to be diluted or managed under any influence.
SP City and DSP City Anudeep Singh interrogated the accused persons in a bid to find out more details about the gangrape.
