Jamshedpur: Police arrested a man from Birsanagar on Wednesday and recovered brown sugar from his residence.
The accused has been as identified as 29-year-old Akash Patel, a resident of Zone No. 1, Birsanagar.
According to police, they recovered brown sugar weighing up to 2.41 grams packed in 38 pouches.
Police added that Akash’s cousins, Rahul Karmakar and Ajay Karmakar, are also believed to be involved in the illegal drug trade, and the police are currently searching for them.
The arrest was made following a tip-off received by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) regarding the illegal sale of brown sugar in the Birsanagar area on September 17.
Acting on the information, police raided Patel’s house, where they found the brown sugar pouches hidden in a black plastic bag in his bedroom.
