Recover country-made pistol and live cartridges

Jamshedpur, Dec. 16: The police have arrested two more attackers involved in the gun-shot attack on Sikh leader Gurucharan Singh Billa near Adivasi Bustee under Sitaramdera police station area on November 9.

The cops arrested Uttam Panda alias Budha (29) and RajkishoreMahto alias Sadhu Mahto (32), both residents of Galudih in Ghatshila sub-division and Nimdih in Seraikela-Kharsawan district respectively.

While arresting the two, the police have recovered a country-made pistol and live cartridges from the possession of the accused.

Senior superintendent of police, Anoop Birtharay said that the two were arrested from the Sitaramdera bus terminus on Sunday night.

“During investigation both Budha and Sadhu Mahto, who were close to Mukhe earlier, revealed that they had attacked on Billa on being asked by Gurmukh Singh Mukhe, who is president of Central GurudwaraPrabandhak Committee (CGPC), Jamshedpur and presently lodged in Ghaghidih Central Jail after his arrest along with his associate Amarjeet Singh Ambey in connection to the case,” said Birtharay while addressing a press conference.

The senior SP said that for the gun-shot attack, Budha, Sadhu Mahto along with two others carried out recce.

He said earlier the accused had planned to attack Billa near the Tinplate Gurudwara and later decided to attack him in the Agrico Maidan where the victim would come for the morning walk, but finally they decided to attack him near the Adivasi Bustee.

Birtharay said a day before Billa was attacked, Mukhe had held a meeting with them at the Central Gurudwara on Kalimati Road in Sakchi. The assailants were also provided with accommodation at the SakchiGurudwara so that they may wake up early in the morning for getting their plan executed.

The senior SP said two more accused whose identity is being kept secret are still absconding. Billa (50) who is president of Jharkhand State Sikh Pratinidhi Sabha was injured as a group of bike-borne criminals attacked him by opening fire at him near the Adivasi Bustee at about 4.45 am, while the victim along with his wife Gurpreet Kaur was going to a Gurudwara at Sitaramdera. In the attack, which was conspired due to an old enmity between the two had left Billa with three bullet injuries.

Meanwhile, a delegation of Jharkhand State Sikh Pratinidhi Sabha led by Inderjeet Singh had met the Senior SP and expressed their gratitude for apprehending the elements involved. About 50 functionaries of the Sabha including Gurpreet Singh and gun-shot victim’s wife Gurpreet Kaur had participated in the delegation to the senior SP.

Former CGPC president, Indrajeet Singh while talking to the newsmen requested the members of Sikh community not to elect tainted person like Mukhe for an important post like CGPC chairman.
