Jamshedpur police arrest suspect for demanding ransom in Sonu Singh’s name

Jamshedpur, July 9: The police have arrested Parsudih resident Banti Guha who is accused of demanding ransom in the name of Sonu Singh, a convicted prisoner serving sentence in Ranchi’s Hotwar Jail. The case was registered on July 5 at the Sidhgora Police Station by Amit Chawla.  Amit informed the police that he had received a phone call demanding ransom in the name of Sonu Singh. Upon receiving the complaint, the police initiated an investigation leading to the arrest of Banti Guha from Golf Green, Kolkata. Banti is involved in several cases registered in various police stations of Jamshedpur. During police interrogation, Banti revealed that while he was in jail, he came in contact with several criminals. It was during this period that he got the idea of demanding ransom in the name of Sonu Singh. He was released on bail on March 23. After his release, he noted contact numbers of shopkeepers from the boards outside their shops and then made ransom demands using those numbers. It was in that sequence that Banti made the ransom demand to Amit Chawla. After news about the case was published in the newspapers, he fled to Kolkata, where the police apprehended him. Currently, he has been sent back to jail by the police.
