Jamshedpur, Feb 12: A grand public meeting was organized in Pindrabera village of Rapcha panchayat in Gamharia under the aegis of Adivasi Bhumi Raksha Samiti on Sunday. The Manjhi Baba, Gram Pradhan and residents of all five panchayats of Gamharia were present on this occasion. The villagers, armed with traditional weapons, protested against industrial pollution in the region and demanded measures to curb it.
Leading the protestors, the outfit president cum chief advisor Sangram Mardi said the local companies were spreading pollution leading to serious diseases. He said the rivers, ponds and wells were also being polluted due to industries. Due to pollution, crops are being destroyed, he said.
The villagers said a local company was constructing roads and drawing high-tension overhead electricity cables in Tilopada and Pindrabera. They said they would not allow it. They gave a week’s time to the company to stop spreading pollution in the area.
