Jamshedpur: Steel City came alive with vibrant activity as residents made the most of the first Sunday of the year 2025, flocking to popular picnic spots in and around Jamshedpur. Families, friends, and groups of young enthusiasts turned out in large numbers, enjoying the crisp winter weather and scenic locales.

From the picturesque Jubilee Park to the serene Dimna Lake, picnic spots were abuzz with laughter, the aroma of home-cooked meals, and the echo of music. The city’s residents seized the opportunity to unwind, marking the start of the year with joy and camaraderie.

Jubilee Park, a favorite, saw a surge in visitors as families spread out their picnic mats amidst the lush greenery. Children were seen enjoying the play areas and cycling tracks, while adults basked in the sun. “We decided to start the year on a cheerful note. The park is perfect for family bonding,” shared Priya Kumar, a resident of Kadma.

Dimna Lake, known for its tranquil waters and picturesque surroundings, drew nature lovers and adventure seekers. Boating was a popular activity, while others enjoyed cooking meals over portable stoves along the lakeside. “This is our annual tradition. The lake offers a refreshing escape from the hustle of daily life,” said Rakesh Prasad, who came with his group of friends from Sakchi.

Chandil Dam and Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary were other hotspots for those seeking a mix of scenic beauty and adventure. The dam’s expansive water views and Dalma’s forested trails provided the perfect backdrop for trekking and exploration.

The influx of visitors led to traffic congestion in certain areas, particularly near Jubilee Park and Dimna Lake. Police personnel were deployed to manage the flow of vehicles and ensure safety. Parking lots were filled to capacity early in the day, prompting some visitors to park their vehicles at a distance..

Local vendors selling snacks, tea, and souvenirs did brisk business, benefitting from the increased footfall. Ice cream carts and candy sellers were a hit among children, while tea stalls saw continuous crowds.

Authorities at popular picnic spots made special arrangements to manage the crowds and maintain cleanliness. Volunteers and municipal workers were deployed to ensure litter-free surroundings. Signboards urging visitors to dispose of waste responsibly were prominently displayed, and extra garbage bins were placed at strategic locations.
“We are glad to see people enjoying themselves, but we urge everyone to keep the environment clean and respect nature,” said an official from the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee.
For many residents, the day was a welcome respite from their routine lives. “It’s a perfect way to start the year. Spending time with loved ones and enjoying nature rejuvenates the soul,” remarked Manisha Sharma, a teacher from Sonari.
