Jamshedpur: Patient jumps to death from Sadar Hospital building

Seraikela, Feb 2: A 55 year-old man, identified as Mahavir Mardi, jumped from the second floor of Seraikela Sadar Hospital here on Thursday. He was under treatment for weakness and was admitted to Bed No 14 on 30th January last.

Sources said Mahavir went missing from his bed on Thursday morning. His relatives and attendant started searching for him and informed the doctors and hospital staff about it. After a search, the hospital employees spotted Mahavir lying dead behind the hospital building. After identification, the body was sent to MGM Medical College for postmortem examination.

Sources said Mahavir was addicted to alcohol and was upset on not getting it in the hospital.

District Civil Surgeon Dr Vijay Kumar reached Sadar Hospital and inquired about the incident. He directed the officials concluded to lock the corridor grill leading to the balcony.

Nagar Panchayat VP condoles patient death

Seraikela, Feb 2: Seraikela Nagar Panchayat vice president Manoj Kumar Choudhary expressed grief over the suicide of patient Mahavir Mardi at Seraikela Sadar Hospital. He said the patients were not safe in the hospital. He said the incident of suicide was a cause of grave concern. He said the Sadar Hospital management had failed to safeguard the interest of patients and keep a watch on them round the clock. He said the hospital doctors and staff should be sensitive towards patients.
