Jamshedpur, Feb 11: Efforts will be made to conserve old, rare, and medicinal plants in the Dalma forest range of Jamshedpur. These plants will be tagged with identification information for tourists to recognize such plants. Recent surveys have revealed that there are several rare plants in Dalma that are not found in other part of the country.
Some of the rare plants found in Dalma include Hemigraphis, which is found in Arabia, the Philippines, and Southeast Asia. Plants like Dicliptera, found in countries like China, Afghanistan, and Bhutan, are also present here and are typically found in the Himalayan region. Various other plants such as Thespesia Lampas (ban kapas), Raxbyurghiana Bavahiya, among others, have been discovered here.
In the approximately 194 square kilometers area of the Dalma forest, various medicinal plants have been found that include Kadamba, Gular, Arjuna, Tamarind, Pipal, Black Sheesham, Beejashal, Banyan, Amla, Chirayata, Harra, Bahera, among others. Many trees of Black Sheesham are protected under the Indian Forest Act of 1972, and trading in them is illegal.
Training will be provided for the conservation of these plants. Dr. Abhishek Kumar, the DFO of Dalma, stated that the forest area contained many old, valuable, and medicinal plants, and information related to them had been obtained from surveys. Training will be provided to people on how to protect these plants.
