Jamshedpur officials set targets for Swachh Bharat Mission’s ODF plus initiative

Jamshedpur: A crucial meeting of the District Water and Sanitation Committee was held today at the Collectorate Auditorium, as per the instructions of District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner,  Ananya Mittal. The meeting, convened under the chairmanship of ADM Law and Order and Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) in charge,  Aniket Sachan, focused on reviewing the ongoing works under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) Phase-2 in the district.

The meeting addressed the progress of various components of the mission aimed at improving sanitation and water management in rural areas. The State Coordinator (MIS) provided a detailed presentation on the Swachh Bharat Mission, outlining key points such as solid and liquid waste management, garbage disposal, and the construction of sanitation structures with the collaboration of the Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Department.

The Deputy Development Commissioner emphasized the importance of meeting the targets set for the financial year 2024-25. He directed the concerned officials to ensure that all activities related to the mission are completed on time.

The key focus of the meeting was on achieving the objective of making villages ODF (Open Defecation Free) Plus model villages. The ODF Plus initiative aims to improve overall cleanliness in rural areas through solid and liquid waste management, while maintaining the ODF status. The DDC instructed officials to include beneficiaries of the Abua Awas Yojana in the toilet scheme to ensure broader coverage and better sanitation.

The DDC also reviewed the progress of the six components of ODF Plus, which include:  Maintaining the sustainability of open defecation-free status, Solid and liquid waste management, Cow dung and plastic waste management, Safe menstrual management, Faecal waste management, Construction of separation sheds at the Gram Panchayat level

Officials were directed to carry out physical verification and inspections of all construction works, ensuring that all activities are completed under Phase-2 through convergence with the 15th Finance Commission (Panchayati Raj Department) and MNREGA (Rural Development Department) schemes.

 Aniket Sachan urged all concerned departments to coordinate effectively and complete the necessary works at the earliest, ensuring that the sanitation infrastructure meets the district’s requirements. He also highlighted the importance of utilizing the funds from the 15th Finance Commission for constructing sanitation structures in line with the project’s needs.
