Jamshedpur: NGT orders probe at Nilanchal Iron and Sponge Company

Jamshedpur, March 29: A three-member team led by the Seraikela-Kharsawan Deputy Commissioner Arava Rajkamal conducted an inspection of Nilanchal Iron and Sponge Company at Raipur, Kandra, on Tuesday following the directive of National Green Tribunal. The team inspected various aspects of the company’s production processes and also perused pollution related documents to verify the allegations of spreading pollution in the region leveled against the company by local villagers.

The DC said the NGT had directed the Central Pollution Control Board, Jharkhand Pollution Control Board, State Environment Tribunal and the district administration to carry out a pollution related probe in the company. He said the team would submit its report on all aspects of pollution.

Sources said local villagers had registered complaints against the company at various forums at district, state and national level.

The DC was accompanied by ADC Subodh Kumar, Dr Rajeev Kumar of Small Industries Association (SIA), Sandeep Roy of Central Pollution Board and Jitendra Kumar of Regional Pollution Board.
