Jamshedpur: A historic step was taken today under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) as the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) and the Giridih Municipal Corporation (GMC) signed an MoU under the Swachh Shahar Jodi program. The initiative, chaired by Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, brought together 72 mentor cities and 196 mentee cities from across India.

As part of the collaboration, JNAC will serve as the mentor city and Giridih Municipal Corporation as the mentee. The two cities will work together in eight critical areas: visual sanitation, waste segregation and transportation, solid waste processing, sanitation facility access, waste management, de-sludging mechanization, citizen feedback and awareness, and grievance redressal.

Speaking on the occasion, Giridih Deputy Municipal Commissioner (DMC) Prashant Layak said, “JNAC’s experience and guidance will help Giridih develop into a model clean city. This partnership will chart a new course for us in sanitation management.”

Krishna Kumar, DMC of JNAC, emphasized Jamshedpur’s leadership in cleanliness, stating, “This collaboration will benefit both cities and inspire other municipal bodies to adopt sustainable practices.”

The MoU marked the beginning of a cooperative effort to raise sanitation standards, promote knowledge sharing and create cleaner, healthier and more sustainable cities in line with the Swachh Bharat vision.
