Jamshedpur murder: Four arrested, police probing whether rivalry with Rahul led to killing, says SSP

Jamshedpur, June 10: City police here on Thursday arrested four accused wanted in the murder of Manpreet Pal Singh at Agrico.

Those arrested were identified as Rahul Singh, Akshay Singh, Gaurav Gupta and Naveen Singh. Two more accused are on the run, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jamshedpur, Dr M Tamil Vanan at a press conference.

Manpreet, 22, was shot dead by armed assailants in his house at Sidhgora on Wednesday last after he had appeared as a witness in a three month old firing case.

According to the SSP, “Manpreet and all accused persons belong to the same gang. Rahul and Manpreet wanted to become gang leaders and were rivals. This is why Manpreet was eliminated.”

Police recovered a pistol, 10 bullet shells, two live bullets, a magazine and the front part of a bullet from the possession of the accused persons. The pistol was recovered from the bushes on the information spilled by Rahul Singh, said the SSP.

The SSP said the accused persons were arrested on the basis of CCTV footage obtained near the crime scene. Six assailants were seen in the footage. A case was lodged against five named and eight to 10 unidentified persons by Manpreet’s family, he said.

During interrogation, the four accused said they were all sitting on a ground near Manpreet’s house on the day of the incident. As per the version of accused persons, Manpreet came there and fired on Rahul’s leg. Thereafter, all accused persons went to Manpreet’s house. There too, Manpreet was the first to open fire. In retaliation, the accused persons shot him, police said, quoting the accused persons.

The SSP said police were probing all aspects and were also trying to verify the claims made by the arrested accused.
