Jamshedpur murder case: Culprits sentenced to life imprisonment

Jamshedpur, Feb 13: The court of Principal District and Sessions Judge Anil Kumar Mishra delivered its verdict on Tuesday in the murder case of BJYM leader Suraj Kumar in the Baghbeda police station area. The accused, Sonu Singh and Kamal Sharma, were sentenced to life imprisonment during the court hearing. Additionally, a fine of Rs 55,000 was imposed on the culprits, with provisions for further penalties if the fine is not paid.

Under section 302 of the IPC, the court ordered life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 30,000, and under section 201 of the Indian Penal Code, seven years’ imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 25,000. Both sentences will run concurrently. Earlier, on Friday, the court had declared both Sonu Singh and Kamal Sharma guilty. Advocate Prabhat Shankar Tiwari presented the prosecution’s case during the proceedings.

The incident occurred on December 7, 2021, when Suraj Kumar was returning home alone. Two minors, Sonu and Kamal, intercepted him and engaged in conversation. During the conversation, Sonu attacked Suraj with a sharp weapon, resulting in severe injuries. After the incident, the culprits fled the scene. Suraj was rushed to TMH in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries during treatment on December 9.
